What to Do When You Lose the Blood Trail
If you lose the blood trail, stop tracking and mark the last confirmed blood. Avoid walking farther into the area than necessary, as additional foot traffic can disturb the deer and make recovery more difficult.

How long can you find a deer after it has been shot?
There is no exact time limit for locating a deer with a thermal drone. How long a deer remains detectable depends on temperature, weather, sunlight, terrain, vegetation, and other environmental conditions. Generally, the sooner we can begin the search, the better the conditions for thermal detection. DeMASTER DRONES has successfully located deer up to 48 hours after the shot.
Can you see through trees with leaves?
No. Thermal cameras cannot see through trees or leaves. However, the drone's aerial view and thermal camera can often detect a deer's heat signature through openings in the canopy. Heavy foliage can reduce visibility and may require us to search from multiple angles or at lower altitudes, which can make the search take longer.
How can you tell if it is the deer I shot?
Our DJI Matrice 30T and DJI Matrice 350 drones have a high-zoom visual camera that allows us to closely inspect a deer from the air. We compare antler size and shape, body characteristics, location, and other details with the information you provide. In many cases, we can even see the wound and use its location to help confirm that we've found your deer, although the wound is not always visible.

Our Deer Recovery Drone Technology
DeMASTER DRONES uses professional DJI enterprise drones specifically equipped for deer recovery. Our DJI Matrice 30T and DJI Matrice 350 with H20N camera provide thermal imaging, powerful zoom capabilities, and day and nighttime search capabilities. Both drones are also equipped with spotlights to assist with nighttime identification and recovery.
Thermal Imaging
Our thermal cameras detect temperature differences between deer and their surroundings, helping us locate animals that can be difficult to see from the ground. Thermal effectiveness can vary depending on weather, vegetation, terrain, and environmental conditions.
High-Zoom Visual Identification
After locating a potential deer, high-zoom visual cameras allow us to examine antlers, body characteristics, and other identifying features. In many cases, we can also see the wound, helping us determine whether we've located the correct deer.
Low-Light & Nighttime Searching
Our drone systems allow us to conduct searches after dark using thermal and low-light imaging. The H20N camera on our Matrice 350 is specifically designed for nighttime operations and combines thermal imaging with powerful low-light visual cameras.
Onboard Spotlights
Both of our deer recovery drones are equipped with spotlights that can illuminate an area from the air. This helps with nighttime visual identification and can assist hunters in locating the deer once it has been found.

Step 3
Meet, Plan & Search
Once your search is reserved, we'll provide you with an estimated time of arrival. Because deer recovery searches can vary in length, we'll keep you updated by text throughout the night if we're running ahead of or behind schedule.
When we arrive, we'll meet with you on-site to discuss the hunt, review the shot location, last blood, direction of travel, and other important details. Together, we'll establish a search plan and launch the drone.
Each search includes up to two hours of flight time, or until we both agree that the appropriate search area has been thoroughly covered — whichever comes first. In most cases, the search area is fully covered before the two-hour limit is reached.
